Can kids really be anything they want to be?

It's time to be real with our kids. It's not true that they can be anything they want to be. Does that get you a little riled up?
There aren't 10,000 spots open for pro football players.
It's harder to get into vet school than med school.
They can work towards being a great basketball player, but that doesn't mean they'll make it to the NBA.
Not everything is possible for everybody.
Yes, let's encourage our kids to work towards goals and to dream.
Let's also encourage their work ethic, creativity and commitment.
Let's encourage them to give their best to the program or job they're in and use it as a steppingstone to the work they love, or at least to the next step.
The process, their attitude, and effort matter greatly.
