Say 'No' Without Guilt and Resentment
Jan 30, 2022
Are you an on-call parent and feeling resentful? Do you have trouble saying 'no'?
I was such a people-pleaser that I believed I had to be all things to everyone. I was exhausted and angry. Make no mistake, it seeps into your words and tone and out to the people you love. Not a good place to be.
When I could accept that I matter, too, it changed everything. You can change it, too. You'll be doing yourself and your kids a huge favor.
Here are some of my takeaways:
#1 - If you're going to teach your children about how the real world works, now's the time to start.
'Out there' are different expectations and demands. Your kids must learn to think on their feet, plan and execute. Preparation is essential.
#2 - Now about that guilt and resentment... Remember, the message is that you love your kids AND YOU LOVE AND VALUE YOURSELF. Take that in. Believe it.
Finding the right words to send a respectful and clear message is challenging for parents.
Listen to my podcast where I provide a script that you can modify to fit your situation. Take notes and let me know how it goes.
P.S. This works with anybody who takes you for granted!
