Why the Same Family Conflict Keeps Happening.

Apr 10, 2026

Many arguments follow the same script.

Have you noticed that so me family conflicts seem to repeat themselves?

The same disagreement.
The same frustration.
The same ending.

Everyone involved assumes this means the other person simply refuses to change.

But often something else is happening.

Both people are reacting to a story they’ve built about the other person (and about themselves).

Parents think:
“My child never listens.”

Children think:
“My parent never understands.”

Once those stories settle in, every conversation becomes evidence to back up the story.

And that’s when conflict starts looping.

The encouraging part is that once parents recognize these patterns, they can begin interrupting them.

You have to understand what the problem is before you can attempt to repair it.
